New Staff and Library book orders

The new staff of my new school is going to have a meet and greet session on Thursday.  I will get to meet the new people as well as find out who is returning from the old school.  I will also be going to meet with the director of librarians to go over the library order for the new school.  It seems I ordered heavily for females and not enough for males. The fact of the matter is, the males prefer the magazines (Magna, Anime, Games, etc.) to books.  A few of them will read graphic novels dealing with these subjects. However, the vast majority of them prefer to read non-fiction such as sports, cars, drawing, and army books. Believe me I have tried to introduce them to fiction via the likes of Meyers and Volponi to no avail.  Any suggestions from my director will be greatly appreciated.  I will post her suggestions .

The Long Hot Summer

Well, its been a while since I last posted.  So many things have been going on. Since the last post, our school has moved to a new location and we have a new name.  I will now be in a brand spanking new library. How exciting is that? I can't wait to see the new media center and meet the new staff (I wonder how many of the old staff will be returning). Even though it is still under construction and considered a hard hat area, I wish the new staff could take a tour of the new facility. I know educators are probably not supposed to admit it, but I will be glad when school starts.  I really miss it.

Testing

For most of this week and next week, there will be make-up ACP testing in the library. I am concerned that my faithful students will give up on coming to the library because it is closed so much.  Well, let's hope they don't. However,  I really feel bad when I have to turn them away because for many of them this is their refuge from the maddening crowd before school and at lunch.. Here's hoping they will return.  I really miss them.  A library without students (not of the test taking variety) is like a day without sunshine.

New Year

Well, well, here we are at the beginning of a new year.  Big changes are in store.  We will be moving to a new school with  mostly new students at the end of this school year.  I cannot wait to see the new library. I would love to know its location in the school, the technology it will house, and the collection.  I am pretty sure our director will do the ordering. I'll keep you posted.  Oh, by the way, we are already beginning to see the effects of change in our present location, its going to be a technology school. Yesterday and today men were measuring to replace the doors.  They seem perfectly fine to me. I guess they don't have enough of  that sleek modern look.

Shiver

I finally read Shiver, the prequel to Linger. It did explain some of the things mentioned in Linger, but not all.
All in all I think Linger is the better book.  Had I read Shiver first, I don't thing I would have read the sequel.  However, I can't wait until the third book in the trilogy, Forever, comes out.

Glogs

Last Friday, Monday (today), Tuesday, and Wednesday I am  introducing glogs to the classes of one of the ELAR teachers.  The kids really like it.  It was surprising  to learn  that none of the students had ever heard of glogs before. I also sent out overdue notices for local and foreign patrons. I would like to clear up the books before Christmas break..
